EAST CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The XTrail Race at Mt. Sutton will be the Eastern Championship for the 2017 Canadian Regional Mountain Running Qualifying Series http://www.mountainrunning.ca/series.php

Age group qualifications:
Junior: 16-19
Senior: 20-39
Master: 40 and over

If you finish in the first 3 positions in your age group in any 3 distances at the XTRAIL , you will automatically be qualified for the 2016 Canadian Mountain Running Championships. For more information about the Regional Series and the Canadian Mountain Running Championships, go to: www.mountainrunning.ca

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Note that Sutton courses are still more technical than the Xtrail Orford trails, but are very accessible to all, from the experienced to the beginner rider. You will need to be completely water self-sufficient since the design of the courses do not allow us to transport supplies in suitable places. Nathan or CamelBak type belts are to be considered. Boutique LeCoureur of Sherbrooke will hold a booth with equipment for sale if ever you forgot your equipment. We also suggest the possession of nutritional gels or other supplement.

Don't forget that you must double your estimated time of arrival than what you do on the road. A lack of energy or dehydration can be fatal to your race.

WAVE STARTS

New this year will be wave starts for all distances. With the popularity of the race, we want to make your experience as much enjoyable as possible. Wave starts will allow mid-pack and back-of-the-pack racers to go faster and not jam at some places in narrow trails. In order to choose your race start, you will need to estimate your time on a similar distance (5K,10K, 21K) but for a ROAD RACE. In doubt, please choose the slower wave. It is possible with that system that if you feel great on that day, you'll have a faster time than someone on a faster wave start since the starts will be done in a CHIP START manner, meaning your time starts when you pass on the starting line.

Maximum: 175 runners

1 Km is for children from 4 to 12 years old. The 1K is non-timed and is purely participatory. All participants will receive a medal. The course is not technical and passes close to the ski station so that you can see your child in action and even run with them! We ask parents to accompany any child less than 6 for security concerns.

* Please note that we offer a professional Babysitting service at Sutton . A fee of $ 20 will apply per child for the duration of the event and you must notify us prior to May 15th by e-mail at the xtrail@live.ca

XTrail Sutton 6.5km
Maximum: 400 runners

The 6,5K, much in demand, is back at XTRAIL Mont Sutton. It is a "discovery" event open to adults and teens wishing to test their potential in trail running. It is an excellent opportunity for those who are intimidated by this kind of journey. However, the vertical gain will be impressive, but very accessible. Also note that the design of the course requires us to do a 5 K that has an effective distance of 6,5K. You'll have a little more for your money!

* The first wave start will be given to 11:30 am.
* Note that there is only a water station at 3.8K. We suggest that you be in total autonomy.
* Estimated time of arrival of the first riders: 30 minutes

The departure and arrival are at the bottom of the mountain, close to the main ski station. In the menu, a portion of 400 m of asphalt prior to entering the single-track trails for the rest of the course with root, rocks, streams...Good slopes with a steep climb of 2 K, with beautiful landscapes! You gradually climb during 6 K to the Summit of Mount Gagnon that will lead you to a descent back to the finish line. Actual distance: 11, 8 Km. Estimated time of the first riders: 1: 00hr. You will need to be in total autonomy (hydration belt, gels, etc.). There are 2 stations of water for emergencies

CUT-OFF TIMES
The 11.8K will have to be done in a time limit of 3 hours. Cut-off time will be planned at strategic locations. For your safety, a member of the organization will be closing all courses. He reserves himself the right to require a participant to abandon the race if he judges his pace will not allow him to finish the race in time.

The 20K start and finishline are at the main Mt.Sutton Ski Station. You'll have approximately 400 m on the asphalt and then start a 2K climb in single track trails. The final 6ks will bring you back to the finishline in a technical descent, with rewarding views! Estimated arrival time of the first riders: 1:50 hr. Average completion time: 2:38 hr.

ELEVATION 20K SUTTON
CUT-OFF TIMES
The 22K must be completed in less than 4.5 hours. Cut-off times will be planned at strategic locations. For your safety, a member of the organization will be closing all courses. xtrail

Many volunteers will be available on the trails at intersections. A medical team will be onsite. All trails will be marked and no derogation from the course will be tolerated under penalty of disqualification.

All trails will be closed by a member of the organisation for security. Please advise if you abandon. The Organization of the XTRAIL reserves itself the right to suggest an injured runner, with poor condition or a slow runner who will make some of the cut-off times, to abandon. This runner will be automatically disqualified.

XTRAIL being a trail race, you will need to be extremely vigilant when passing over another runner. Please advise the runner in front of you when passing. Starts are made to allow a stretch of the riders on the first kilometers. A runner receiving a passing announcement must leave its place to the rider behind him. We count on the collaboration of everyone.

All MP3 players (Ipod and others) are strictly forbidden.

SUGESTED GEAR xtrail
xtrail
* Please note that at the end May and early June in the Eastern Townships, the temperature varies between 5 and 20 degrees celsius, on average. At the top of the mountain, the temperature can radically change. Plan your clothing accordingly.

We suggest you the following equipment:

- A pair of trail shoes.

- Walking poles are permitted.

- Hydration Pack like CamelBag or Nathan Belt (mandatory for the 20K and strongly suggested for the 11.8K and 6.5K)

* NOTE THAT XTRAIL SUTTON SHOULD BE COMPLETED IN FULL WATER AUTONOMY AND SUPPLEMENTS. THE TRAILS DO NOT ALLOW US TO PLACE WATER FEEDS AT A SPECIFIC LOCATION EXCEPT FOR THE DEPARTURE AND ARRIVAL . THERE WILL BE STATIONS FOR EMERGENCY ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PUNCTURED THEIR BAG OF WATER OR LOST THEIR BOTTLES.
